iMUSE - iMUSE for Complex Needs

Project details

  • Location: Sanderson House, Bramham Road, York, YO26 5AR
  • Time: Mondays 10am - 3pm (except for Bank Holidays)
  • Cost: £6 (subsidised places available)

iMUSE provides a relaxing and creative multi-sensory space where participants can connect with the world around them, make their own choices and develop non-verbal ways of communicating. iMUSE uses interactive technology to enable participants to:

  • Relax – a vibrating mattress gently massages the body. This calms and focuses the mind, relaxes muscle tone and reduces anxiety and stress.

  • Make Music – motion sensors detect movements and turn them into sounds.

  • Create visuals – a microphone picks up sounds and iMUSE transforms them into beautiful visuals and projects them into the iMUSE space.

  • Use switch technology – a switch enables choice of colour and pattern for the projected visuals.

Each 1-to-1 session lasts for 30 minutes. Our facilitator finds out which sounds, music and visuals help participants to relax and focus. These are then used to personalise their iMUSE experience.

We also run a series of person-centred sensory activities including movement, play, music, stories and crafts, alongside our Monday iMUSE sessions at Sanderson House. These activities run from 10.30am - 12.30pm and from 1pm - 3pm, every Monday except Bank Holidays. Activities are free and everyone is welcome to attend in addition to attending their iMUSE session.
