Volunteer

Volunteers are an important part of the team at Accessible Arts & Media, supporting our activity sessions and helping with fundraising and events.

You can find out about our different volunteering opportunities and how you can make a huge difference to a small local charity in this section of the site.

We love welcoming new volunteers. To have a chat with us and find out how you can get involved, you can email us at info@aamedia.org.uk or give us a call on 01904 626965.

Supporting Project Sessions

We run a range of creative and wellbeing projects in and around York.  Activities in our sessions include: music-making, singing and signing, movement/dance, accessible technology, crafts and sensory activities. Most of our projects run during term-time but we also run holiday clubs in all the school holidays except Christmas. You can find out about the activities we run on our projects page.

Being a project volunteer is all about helping staff and artists run the session smoothly. You might find yourself: setting up and packing down equipment, handing out musical instruments, supporting participants by helping them engage in activities and performances, capturing magic moments on camera and much more.

The role will be tailored to your interests, so you might find yourself sharing your skills or leading activities with participants. We’re always open to new ideas and we’ll work with you to realise them if we think they’re a good fit.

Helping us run our projects doesn't have to be a long-term commitment. We’re always happy to work around you and your timetable so if you’re interested, please get in touch – we’d love to chat.

Fundraising Volunteering Opportunities

We also have opportunities for volunteers to help with our fundraising activities and events. As a small charity, fundraising events are a really important way of raising our profile as well as raising vital funds.

Volunteering for our fundraising events can involve things like: setting up and packing down an event; helping with a bucket collection; helping run a stall; being part of a cheer squad at a challenge event etc.

Helping us with fundraising doesn't have to be a long-term, regular commitment. If you're happy to be contacted as and when we have an event coming up, contact us by email or by calling the office on 01904 626965.

Our Commitment to Volunteers

We'll do our best to match you to the appropriate opportunity based on your interests, skills and available time.

The biggest requirement we ask of volunteers is that you’re friendly, supportive and willing to try things out and develop your skills. In return, we can provide training and support to help you learn new skills and build confidence.

Volunteering with us can provide a supported pathway into/back into work or education. Our training includes: workshop leader training, opportunities to shadow community artists, and the chance to learn how to sign and adopt a Total Communication approach.

Our projects can also help you develop your own creative skills while supporting participants. And our fundraising events give you experience in organising events and raising funds for charity.
