AAM ceilidh is a huge hit on the dancefloor!

On Sunday 29th October, participants, volunteers, and friends came together to put on a show with a twist, or should we say ‘jig’? The afternoon started with participants taking to the stage to wow the crowd with their folky numbers.

Movers & Shakers kicked off the afternoon and showcased some of the work they’ve been doing this term. The group used scarves and ribbons as part of a beautiful movement piece that mesmerised the crowd.

IMPs were up next. They took to the stage and performed their version of ‘Drunken Sailor’ where they switched out the lyrics for their own. It was great to see everyone put their own stamp on a familiar song.

Last, but by no means least, was Hands & Voices. They performed some of the songs they’ve been working on this term including ‘Froggy Went a Courtin’’ and ‘Blow the Wind Southerly’. They were ace! And they finished on a high with the crowd getting involved for their finale, ‘I’ll Tell me Ma’.

And what better way to round off a wonderful afternoon than with a fantastic ceilidh? The New Fox Band got straight to it with some traditional Gaelic tunes that we reeled and jigged to.

When we weren’t on the dancefloor, we were hoovering up the yummy cakes our new Social and Events group made for the event. The group’s made of participants and volunteers who took turns managing the kitchen space, taking sales, and making tea and coffee for everyone. They were ace and raised a whopping £239 in tea and cake alone. Well done and thank you guys, you rock!

Big thanks to the local businesses and creatives who donated fantastic prizes for our raffle. We were gifted hampers, theatre tickets and wine among other exciting prizes. With their help and kind donations, the raffle raised £288

A huge thank you to all the participants, parents, volunteers, careers, and staff who cheered, donated, volunteered, and danced the afternoon away with us. We couldn’t have done it without your help.

And a massive thank you to The Gateway Centre for letting us use the space. Thanks to each and every one of you, we were able to raise a grand total of £804. How AAM-azing is that?
