Dragon Boat Challenge Awards 2022

We had a blast at last week's York Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge Awards at York Mansion House. Trustee Tina and Marketing and Community Fundraising Coordinator Lauren went along to receive our Tail Enders award from the Lord Mayor of York.

We love our paddle trophy – it sits proudly as a reminder that we were one of the most inclusive teams out on the water at this year’s event. We’ll be sad when we'll have to pass it on to next year’s tail-enders

It was great to meet all the wonderful teams who took part too. Their hard work helped raise a whopping £80,000, which was shared between nominated charities AAM and Antibiotic Research and the 36 teams’ chosen causes. As nominated charities, AAM and Antibiotic Research UK were each awarded a huge £13,600.

The money raised will help us develop and meet the demand for our iMUSE for Wellbeing programme. In the last few months, we’ve seen an increase in demand, most notably from the impact the last 2 years have had on people’s mental wellbeing. We’ve seen more referrals from mental health experts and social prescribers than before. So, it’s more important than ever for us to be able to provide the service.

As a small charity, the money will make a huge difference to many and help us meet that demand.

A massive AAM thank you to York Rotary Club for choosing Accessible Arts and Media as one of the two chosen charities. And a huge shout out to all the teams who took part - the costumes were fabulous, and your efforts raised a lot of money for some incredible causes.

Speaking of fabulous costumes, it was an honour to have Rotary Club President Mary Lumley on board. And an even bigger one for her to wear one of our fabulous sea-themed headpieces. Finally, a big thank you to all the hard work put in by Brian Joscelyne and the rest of the Rotarians, who pulled off a fantastic event.

Next year's race is on the 9th of July 2023 with Kyra and Big Futures Foundation as the chosen charities. Both are amazing local causes, and we wish them the best of luck!
