Goodbye from Rose, and hello to Chris - introducing our new CEO

Back in Autumn, we shared the news of an important change at Accessible Arts & Media: that after more than 30 years, our inspirational co-founder Rose Kent would be stepping down as CEO.

“Little did I know when I founded the Accessible Arts arm of the charity back in 1992 that I’d still be here 33 years later”, says Rose. “And that I’d still be as passionate about the work we do and the amazing people we work with. I really have had the best job!”

“It’s been a real privilege to run an organisation that’s all about supporting people to find their voice and play an active role in their local community. Their energy, enthusiasm and the incredible creative magic they bring have made this journey such fun. I’ll have so many wonderful memories to take with me when I leave at the end of March”, Rose continues.

“With the unwavering support and dedication of our staff, volunteers, trustees, partners, funders and anyone and everyone who’s supported in other ways, you’ve all helped to make AAM the fabulous organisation it is today. I can’t thank each and every one of you enough. You’re all AAM-azing!”

Accessible Arts & Media’s Chair of Trustees, Lucy Galliard, says: “Rose has been the powerhouse behind AAM for over three decades. Her achievements are huge, as has been the effort, attention – and most importantly – love that she has put into the organisation. No one can run a charity for this long without facing some really tough times, and Rose has seen us through it all. Whilst we’re of course sad to see her leave, everyone at AAM is excited for Rose to be able to redirect that passion and love into herself, her dogs and her garden gnome collection!”

Introducing our new Chief Executive Officer

With huge gratitude to Rose, we’re also very happy to announce the appointment of our new Chief Executive Officer, Chris Farrell.

Chris joins us from Age UK York, and has had a successful career in senior roles at charities that provide vital support to people across the country. Before that, he was a professional musician – so he knows all about the power of music to move and make change!

Chris says “I first shared a stage with Accessible Arts & Media almost a decade ago, so I’ve known for many years the difference the organisation makes for participants and for the wider community. It’s a pretty big task to try and fill Rose’s boots, but I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to steer the charity into its next chapter and, with your support, I know we can do some pretty amazing things.”

Lucy Galliard, Chair of Trustees, added: “We’re also thrilled that Chris is joining us. From a strong field of candidates, Chris stood out as a top quality candidate with the perfect balance of strategic and leadership skills, and a true understanding of what we do and why it’s needed. I look forward to welcoming him to the AAM family.”

Between now and the end of March, when Rose leaves, everyone at AAM will be helping Chris to get his feet under the table, before his official first day on 1st April 2025.

We hope you'll all join us in giving Chris a very warm welcome! And watch this space for news of a special gig to celebrate Rose and everything she's achieved for AAM.
