IMPs Holiday Clubs go digital with York Mediale!

We’re really excited to announce that we’re working with York Mediale, York’s new international festival of media arts, for this summer’s IMPs holiday clubs.

Throughout August we’re running a series of three workshops exploring digital arts, including dance, music and film. The sessions will give children and young people the chance to explore new creative technology and create their own digital artworks.

As always, the holiday clubs are open to disabled and non-disabled children and young people aged 5 – 25.  Morning sessions are aimed at younger children aged 5-10 and the afternoon sessions are aimed at young people aged 11 – 25.  (Please note that age ranges for the sessions are just a guide. Siblings of other ages are welcome.)

You’re welcome to come along to one, two or all three sessions!

Session 1 – Hack Camp: Wednesday 15th August, York Explore

Morning session for 5 – 10-year olds: 10am – 12pm

Afternoon session for 11 – 25-year olds: 1pm – 3pm

Work with digital sound artist Paul Fothergill to play around with circuits, sound effects and synthesisers and make your own digital instruments and music!

OUR SESSION 1 WORKSHOPS ARE NOW FULL. SPACES ARE STILL AVAILABLE ON OUR OTHER WORKSHOPS (SEE BELOW).

Session 2 – Dance and Film: Wednesday 22nd August, York St John University

Morning session for 5 – 10-year olds: 10am – 12pm

Afternoon session for 11 – 25-year olds: 1pm – 3pm

Take part in a fully accessible dance and film session led by Amy Manancourt from dance organisation Creative Humans. You'll create original dance and movement pieces that will be transformed into amazing 3D visuals using special cameras.

Session 3 – Virtual Reality: Wednesday 29th August, Ron Cook Hub – University of York

Morning session for 5 – 10-year olds: 10am – 12pm

Afternoon session for 11 – 25-year olds: 1pm – 3pm

Visit the audio lab at University of York to experiment with new sound technologies, create your own electronic music and have a go in a 360-degree interactive sound and visual space. The 360 space will be turned into an immersive game, specially designed for people who are highly sensitive to sound. You’ll also get the chance to try out iMUSE, a therapeutic multi-sensory experience.

The cost for all workshops is £5 per session (subsidised places are available, please ask us about them)
