Making waves with a Summer of Swimming

Superstar fundraiser Nick Boaz is well on his way to cracking his £1,500 target. He’s set his sights on a summer of swimming and already has 3 of 4 events down!

When Nick got in touch to say he was raising money for us, we were thrilled. His big sister’s been part of our projects for years and we’ve loved seeing her confidence grow.

Nick tells us that he’s been swimming competitively since the age of 12 alongside sprint swimming and water polo. You could say that he’s at home in the water!

The first event for this challenge was The Great North Swim back in June and Nick was raring to go. Sadly the weather had other ideas and it was called off for another day. Still, Nick managed to get in the water, which is more than can be said for us!

His second event was at Ullswater where he swam 7.5 miles with an amazing time of 3hrs 52mins. All of this in chilly waters, without a wetsuit - brrrr!

Ullswater Medal

There wasn’t much rest between Ullswater as his next dip in the water at Windermere a week later. Just 10.5 miles stood between Nick and the finish line, which he managed to do in a speedy 4hrs 47mins.

All this has been building up to the big finale -  to swim across the English Channel. He plans to take on the 21-mile stretch of water later this year in October. He’ll have not only the weather but jellyfish, currents and ships to contend with on his journey across the Channel. Sounds daunting, but Nick is well on his way with his training and open water swims are nothing new to him.

We’re looking forward to hearing all about the big finale but until then, you can support him over on his JustGiving page
