York 10K Fundraising Heroes - Scott

We wanted to introduce you to our AAM York 10K 2018 fundraising heroes. We caught up with Scott this week to find out why he's running the 10K for AAM and how he's getting on with his training.

Why did you decide to raise funds for Accessible Arts & Media?

I'm running the York 10k to fundraise money for an organisation that I've had a long relationship with (longer than my marriage!). Not only do they do incredible work with a diverse range of people, I also owe Accessible Arts (or The Old Dairy as it was) a lot for providing me with opportunities to work in a rewarding and creative sector. I think it's also very important to contribute to smaller charities, where the money raised can have a big impact.

If you had to sum up Accessible Arts & Media in three words, what words would you choose?

Vibrant, Dedicated, Wonderful.

How would you describe the difference Accessible Arts & Media makes?

Providing opportunities and experiences for those who really need it, across a diverse range of people - supporting those with disabilities, health issues, age, etc with care and enthusiasm. You can see the difference when you watch the Morrell House videos, go to a Hands and Voices event, witness a sensory music session.

How's your training going?

Was going good, then thought I was 15 years younger than I was, eased off, restarted. Stretching a lot. Feeling pretty good actually.

Do you have any top training tips for others looking to run a 10K?

It depends on your initial level of experience I suppose, but you should always try and build over time, set a target but don't over obsess about it. Don't over train, always warm up, stretch and don't obsess about speed. Don't try and do a PB all the time either, you'll just exhaust and hurt yourself.

We love music here at AAM - what's the track guaranteed to get you going when you're out training?

I need to slow down when I run on my own, so I go for something laid back, most of the tracks on Air - Talkie Walkie are hitting the spot at the moment, or Kiasmos - Blurred. For a more sustained pace, LCD Soundsystem!
