Blow The Wind Southerly

Blow the Wind Southerly is a beautiful folk song from Northumberland about a woman waiting for her lover to return back from the sea. This is a great song for a change in tempo and gives a chance for your group to practice their quiet singing. The phrases are fairly long so a breathing warm-up might be helpful to calm and ready the voices before learning this song.

After we sing the verse, there’s an instrumental chorus where you can bring some sensory props into the song that remind you of the sea. Perhaps some fans, or some bubbles, or you could do some nice gentle ‘wind’ signs.

Alongside the resource pack, we've also created this video of one of our AAM leaders teaching the full song to help you as you learn it too.
